Classmates,

We have met in an Emergency Planning Meeting, July 3, 2008, of the committee and determined that we need to postpone the reunion until next year due to the extremely low registration numbers. However, we feel there is a sufficient interest in having a reunion, but the economy has taken an unforeseeable turn and taken a toll on everyone in the U.S. including our classmates. Many classmates have cited financial constraints as the reason they would not be able to attend. We also have been told that many classmates had to decline because they had to take their college aged children and get them moved into college on August 16th, 2008.

For these reasons we feel it may be a prudent move to postpone our reunion until next year when we hope economic conditions will be much better for all of us, or at least we will have been able to adjust to our economic conditions. Also, we have determined that maybe we should change the date to around this time next year instead of August.

We have been made aware of an event that has been started called the Sumter High vs. Hillcrest Basketball Alumni Playoff last year by the Class of 1982.  It was held again this year but also included an Alumni Football Playoff.  Both of these events, to our understanding, are played by Alumni and it has a DJ performing during intermission.  This event has been held on the last (not the 3rd) Friday in June for the last two years and is held by S.H.A.H.R.E. (Sumter High and Hilcrest Reaching Everyone --and not SHS), who do intend to make it an annual event.  Therefore, we intend to try to work our events around their dates to incorporate these two (football playoff & basketball playoff) events into our weekend of events if possible--but no gaurantees yet. We think it may be a more appropriate event for us to have as our Friday night event for our weekend of events because it involve Alumni playing against each other . We will check the details and try to reschedule our weekend of events for June 26-27 tentatively, but it will be summer 2009. It looks like this is when the PlayOff events will take place but we are not sure about the if we can get this date for everything else yet. Stay tuned to this site and we will keep you posted. 

We will try to re-schedule and let you know as soon as possible the actual details and send out an e-mail message as well as post these details on our website. Please stay tuned for more details. We have worked hard to plan a fun reunion for our class and we intend to do our utmost to see that we have a chance to reunite as a class as soon as we can. We hope this will allow those of you with airline tickets to get extensions for a year for your tickets to use next year if you are not able to get a refund.

Because we are rescheduling at this time, we will be issuing refunds for those who have registered and made payments for the reunion. However, we need to make you aware that we have incurred costs for planning the reunion already which need to be covered such as printing and mailing costs, among other costs already paid. We would appreciate any donations toward these costs. If you decide to allow us to retain your payments as a donation toward these costs, please send an e-mail message to SumterHigh_Class1983@yahoo.com and state that you are allowing us to apply your registration fees toward the costs already incurred by committee for the reunion planning. We also had to pass a cancellation deadline for our DJ contract to allow the first deadline extension in hopes we could still have the reunion as planned. So, again, any donations to our planning efforts would be helpful and much appreciated.

If you paid with PayPal, you will receive your refunds directly back to your accounts that you paid from as soon as possible. If you paid with Cashier’s Check or Money Order, you will be issued a check from our account as a refund as soon as possible. Thank you for your support and we apologize for the inconvenience, which was unpredictable and beyond our control. We hope we can reunite as a class this coming year and use the time we have to prepare for a wonderful reunion.

To assist us with the re-planning of the reunion for next year, we are asking for a Reunion Commitment Deposit of $30 to be paid to ensure the number of people that will be attending.  This will be applied to your registration for next year’s reunion registration fees unless you fail to attend. This fee will be non-refundable deposit. This can be paid by allowing us to retain the amount from your registration fees you have already paid if you would like.  Please send us an e-mail to SumterHigh_Class1983@yahoo.com stating that you would like the Reunion Commitment Deposit of $30 to be retained from your 2008 registration payment refund. 

We will post the updated reunion details on our website as quickly as possible once we have verified with the venues that we are able to reschedule for these dates. The details will include costs & payment plan options once they are set. Several classmates asked for last time during registration. So, we are trying to adjust to make the reunion a success and give our classmates the options they desire, which may include the option to pay for individual events if possible. We will do our best to accommodate our classmates’ needs whenever possible. Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to a wonderful reunion next year.
