Great News! Reunion Registration Extension for all the procrastinators, or people who just didn't know if they could attend the Reunion yet...We just got word from Carolina Skies Club that they are allowing us an extension on getting our list to them.
So, the Committee decided to pass that extension on to you to Register for the Reunion! Isn't that great!
Now you can still Register for the Reunion and join the FUN! Your Registrations MUST BE RECEIVED BY JULY 8TH*. So, what are you waiting for...get yours in today!
*If we don't receive your Registration by July 8th they won't be on the list to enter Shaw and those Registrations will be returned to you.
Past News:
The reunion committee met in an Emergency Planning Meeting, July 3, 2008, and determined that we need to postpone the reunion until next year due to the extremely low registration numbers. However, we felt there was sufficient interest in having a reunion, but the economy has taken an unforeseeable turn and taken a toll on everyone in the U.S. including our classmates. Many classmates cited financial constraints as the reason they would not be able to attend last year. We also have been told that many classmates had to decline because they had to take their college aged children and get them moved into college on August 16th, 2008.
For these reasons we felt was a prudent move, at the time, to postpone our reunion until 2009, when we hope economic conditions would be much better for all of us, or at least we would have been able to adjust to our economic conditions. We hope the current economic conditions do not hinder attendance this year as well. Also, we have determined that maybe we should change the date to either June or July instead of August, due to college issues for families.
Registration refunds were processed for everyone as requested by each person for last years, 2008's, registration according to their wishes.
We tried to book the event around some other fun activities relevant to our class, but couldn't get another venue and Carolina Skies was booked for the whole month of June for weddings. So, we had to move our event to July 18th, 2009 to schedule with Carolina Skies. Also, because the economy is still hitting so many of us a bit hard, we are only going to have one major event to keep costs low for registration. Classmates have suggested that if we only had one major event they wanted that to be a "Gala Event", which would be a really nice semi-formal/church attire dinner dance affair.
Since the Dinner Dance was one of our major events being planned for already (and requested by classmates), we are still planning for this, which includes attendance to the Memorial Service at Sumter High School.
We are also planning a Farewell Breakfast. The costs of the Memorial Service is incorporated into the registration with the Dinner Dance budget, but the Farewell Breakfast will be up to each of those who wish to attend to purchase their breakfasts at the group rate we received for our group.
However, both the Memorial Service & Farewell Breakfast attendance will be gathered from the Registration Forms, which require us to get a number of people who will be attending these two events to reserve seating. So, you must be registered to attend.
The Breakfast will include each of us paying for our own meals and will not be a part of the reunion registration cost. We have been given a discount rate by Golden Coral though for our group (See Prices & Order Info page).
The committee has updated the budget with new costs from vendors and have met to discuss the budget, costs for registration, etc. We have posted the costs for the events on the Pricing & Order Info page. Thank you for your patience and we look forward to seeing everyone on July 18, 2009. There will be no REFUNDS after the Late Registration original deadline of June 18th, 2009. We have to set this deadline to be able to meet our expenses for the planned events.
